Zudi's Bits | Where Is Your Faith?

Updated: Jun 15, 2022

Luke 8:22-25; Mark 8:38; John 3:16; Psalm 3:1-8

Got up remembering a song I wrote recently which surrounds this scripture in Luke 8:22-25 KJV.

Luk 8:22 Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth. Luk 8:23 But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy. Luk 8:24 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. Luk 8:25 And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.

The very first verse says, “it came to pass…”. “It came to pass”. Whatever is ahead in that story, all hung on two phrases, “it came to pass” and a statement Jesus made at the end of that same verse, “Let us go over unto the other side”. He spoke the word that one can hope and rest on. Jesus knew that His word was true, so He entered the boat and “rested”. He went to sleep as they sailed across the lake.

While He slept, a windstorm came down on the lake. Sometimes in life it may appear that God is asleep while you come up against storms/winds that beat you, waters that overwhelm you and situations that places you in jeopardy. If only we remember the Word of “The Word” that said, “let us go over to the other side”. Not, come let’s drown in the middle of a storm, No! Jesus said, “let us go over to the other side”. He may not have given the disciples details of what they would have faced as they journeyed to the other side, but He gave an assured hope in His word that they are going to the other side.

The disciples ran to Jesus, as Mark accounts in Mark 8:38, waking Him up with a false accusation, "Teacher, you do not care that we perish?” This statement could not have been further from the truth. In John 3:16 it says “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only son, that whosoever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting life”. “Would not perish”. He does care. Jesus cares. God cares. Do not allow the enemy to cause you to believe his lie when he is telling you God don’t care, “No one cares if you die”. No! Jesus cares. He came to give us life, everlasting life. He cares.

Jesus arose and rebuked the wind and the raging waters. They ceased and became calm. However, His disciples also received a rebuke from Jesus that day. He said to them, “Where is your faith?”

Where is your faith?

1. Is your faith in the Wind?

The Wind you forecasted ahead of your journey that seemed calm, only to suddenly rise and betray you, becoming treacherous, storm forced, beating you about?

Is your faith in the wind?

2. Is your faith in the Water?

The Water you set out to sail on that seemed cool and calm at first, but then revolted against you, overwhelming you, filling up your boat, trying to bury you in a watery grave? Is your faith in the water?

3. Is your Faith set on the Word?

The Word which was with God from the beginning, who became flesh and dwelt among us as John 1:1-3; 13-14 tells us.

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Joh 1:2 He was in the beginning with God. Joh 1:3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made... Joh 1:13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. Joh 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

This same Word spoke to them from the beginning of this journey in Luke 8:22-25 saying, “let us go over to the other side”. Looking back at this account today, we see the assurance in that statement Jesus made, knowing that they made it to the other side.

Do you believe and put your faith in this Word? The living, breathing, true Word of God, His Son Jesus who cares, who came to give us everlasting life that we would not perish?

You can.

You could place your faith in His Word from today.

Believing and putting faith in His Word will bring you to the other side, most assuredly, just as He promised. Believe Him today.

Pray with me

“Father, I believe in and put my faith in Your Word, Your Son, who became flesh and walked this earth. Who came to give me everlasting life. I trust Him from today to take me over to the other side safely. Following my way only causes me to believe the lies of the enemy and to make false accusations against You. Forgive me. Fill me with Your Word that I would so be filled with You, that when I speak to situations, I will see real changes for good and peace, just as Jesus caused on that lake in the midst of that storm. In Jesus' name, I pray with thanks, Amen!”
